Discomfortable

A hot couple of sessions over the last two days. Perth yesterday was a warm day, and today has had it moments too. As a result my run yesterday and my swim this morning were both a little uncomfortable.

During the run yesterday it wasn't super hot (31 degrees), but still hot enough that you felt it. It was a tough little run with some good intensity work and by the time I finished I definitely felt like I had been running in the heat. I didn't get to the point of feeling faint or anything, but there were a couple of moments where I felt close.

The run went well though. The session was a couple of 3km efforts done with vigour. It is the first time in a while I have done a set like that and they went better than I was expecting. My pacing was a little erratic, going out too hard on each effort and fading at the back end, but over all I was happy with how they went.

This morning was swim time, and once again the heat played a factor. No where near as bad as some session I remember having in Darwin, but still, just warm enough to sap a bit of strength. The set was made up of:

16 x 50m
8 x 100m
4 x 200m
2 x 400m
1 x 800m
16 x 50m

By the 200s through I was really feeling it, just struggling for pace, as were most of the folk in the lane. For some reason though after that I started to pick up. I am not sure what changed, but by the 400s and the 800 I was feeling okay again.

It was good to get through a solid 5km set again though, even with the heat. As is often the case with these sessions I was mentally struggling halfway, so it was good to knuckle down and get through the whole thing.

On the trainer tonight. Well hopefully anyway, a friend of the family also uses a Kickr for his training and his power cord died the other day and so he has borrowed mine. I should be getting it back today though. The session could be tough to do without it. Assuming  I am on the trainer tonight, I think it might be an evening for turning on the fan. And sweating.
