Up and Down

I think my body might hate me. Or at least be fairly ambivalent. I am feeling sick again. None of this, I might possibly be a little unwell sick, not this time. This time it is full blown proper man flu. Sore throat, feeling rotten etc. I started off a little scratchy this morning and the joy has just continued to grow over the course of the day to the point where I now feel properly horrible. I am not sure if this is the same thing I have had for a couple of weeks come around for a third bite of the cherry due to me being run down after my red eye flight back from Phuket, or whether it is something new. Some mysteries of the universe are just too special to solve.

Having said all that though, I am going to a doctor first thing in the morning. I am fairly sure they will say, 'you have a cold, stop doing stuff for a little while and you will stop having a cold', but I think it pays to be sure. This has hung around far longer than any sort of cold I have had before, so I am going to take the time to check.

Given all the above, I had the day off today. I did have plans to go for a swim, but as soon as I woke up I knew that was off the agenda. Coming back from Phuket I told Daryl I intended to get some training in before getting back into regularly scheduled training properly this week, his advice was to not do to much. I took that advice today. It would have been nice to get some training in, but I need to get rid of whatever this is first. I have the day off training tomorrow, so on top of going to the doctor, the not doing to much will continue tomorrow.

On a triathlon front though, Ironman WA was on today and it was great to keep track of. Some absolutely awesome performances and massive PBs for a few of the Break Your Limits guys. Looks like it was a scorching fast day with some blinding times. I think I counted 8 age groupers under 9 hours which is a massive achievement. Keeping track of the race got me fired up (in a cold and fluey kind of way). Not necessarily to be down there racing with them, but to be out there training and racing hard just in general. No matter how I am feeling at the moment, that is where my vision is firmly fixed. Get well, get going, go fast.

Despite feeling off today, it was still a great day. I got to head down to the beach with my daughter for her very first surf. It was going great until her very first dumping. Time will tell if there is ever a very second surf. Still I am hopeful. Other than that I spent a couple of hours helping my sister clean her old rental property before knocking off a big bunch of Christmas shopping. I am not a big shopper, but at the same time I love the feeling you get when you know you have found just the right present for somebody. It may not have been training and I may have been feeling rough, but it was a day well dayed as we like to say in this household.
