Lessons for Logs

They talk about sleeping like a log. Tell you what, the sleep I had last night could show a log a thing or two. In fact I am not sure sleep is even really the appropriate term, I think pass out might be more accurate. I went to sleep at 9:20 and then there was nothing until my alarm went off this morning. Unconscious.

I have to say though that despite that I am still feeling tired. I guess it takes a couple of days to recover from a night of essentially no sleep. I am hoping that another solid night of sleep tonight might get me back on an even keel.

I had played with the idea of heading down to the pool this morning. As I mentioned yesterday I am pretty keen to get back into normal training. But in the end I felt that prudence was the better part of wisdom and so decided to stay in bed to try and recover some of my lost sleep. Seeing how I am feeling this today I think it was the right call. Still I will be looking to jump on the bike in the morning. I think I should be up for it by then.

It is strange to think that a year ago today I was preping for my first Ironman. Ironman WA is on this weekend and so the triathlon world of Perth has more or less stopped for the weekend. Everybody is either down there racing or watching or up in Perth tracking. I was really hoping to get down there this weekend, but with us having just got back from Phuket it looks like it is just going to be too tough to get away for another weekend. Shame really, from what I saw last year while racing the race looks like it has a great spectator vibe going on, which would be a lot of fun to be part of. Still I will be paying avid attention to the tracker come Sunday.

Other than doing a bit of training and watching Ironman WA, I think I might also look to spend some time at the beach this weekend. We don't head down to the beach much as a family, tending instead to spend our time at the river. However, while we were away in Phuket I introduced my daughter to body surfing, which she really enjoyed. I have been hanging out to buy my daughter a spring suit and her first foamy since the day she was born and I think this might have given me the thin excuse I require. Sunday might be a beach day.

Now back to the sleeping.
