Soooo shattered right now. But it is the righteous exhaustion that you get when you know that you earned it.
The only training I have had today was a longish ride on the bike. Last weekend I had a 70km ride on Saturday morning and it absolutely destroyed me. Given that, I was a little concerned about how the 110km session would go this morning. This feeling wasn't helped by my legs feeling a little flat from the run last night. However, I needn't have been worried, the session went well. It was painfully tough, but good.
The session had some hills to start with, some efforts in the middle and more hills to finish with. The first set of hills and the efforts went really well, particularly the efforts. That last set of hills though, man they hurt. I got through and I achieved what I was after, but it was tear inducingly painful to do it, the legs just had nothing left by the end. It was the sort of fatigue you get completing a session well though, and there are few things more satisfying than that.
For the hill repeats today I changed it up a little bit and headed out to King's Park rather than my usual hill around Point Walter. That was partly to get a longer, less steep hill and also more than a little bit because I am sick of my usual hill. For the hills today, I was doing the same thing as I did on Monday, ie staying within a certain heart rate bracket. I said on Monday that I got to the point where my legs became the limiting factor, ie the legs fatigued to the point where I couldn't climb fast enough to get the heart rate up. It occurred to me after that, that it might mean that the hill I have been using is too steep for what I am doing. That is one of the reasons that I headed to a less steep hill today. After my experience today, I think I might have a point, although I am not entirely sure yet. Something to play with a bit more I think.
After the ride the family and I headed down the beach for a bit of an extended family get together. It was a really great way to spend most of the day, it is easy to forget how relaxing it can be simply hanging out at the beach. Spending most of the morning in the sun hasnt' exactly helped my exhaustion levels though.
I will be sleeping well tonight, of that there is no doubt.
