Deja Vu

Back on the bike this morning. Yesterday I mentioned that I was going to try and take the ride down a notch from yesterday's ride, since that one was probably a bit intense. Yeah, well, that didn't really happen.

Still the ride is a testament to the power and repeatability of a power meter. Same course as yesterday but different wind conditions. 1 Watt difference between the two rides, 0.1km/h difference in average speed and about 2 beats difference in average heart rate. This is really where a power meter shines, dial in a number and all things being equal you should end up with a predictable performance each time. That is powerful tool.

See what I did there.

Despite being a bit more intense than it should have been. The ride was a good one. A bit nippy (about 11 degrees) this morning, which is unusual given it is now Summer. But just perfect conditions other than that. Actually the conditions yesterday and today were both pretty lovely for cycling. Cool, no wind, light by about 4:30am. Doesn't get much better.

Whilst the rides so far have been short, I have been very happy with what I have been able to do with them. As I mentioned yesterday, very reassuring.

On to other things. It has been a solid day at work, but I have managed to kick some goals, so it has been very productive day. As a result though my brain is totally fried. Based on how I am currently feeling I think I won't be heading out for my run this afternoon, I just don't have the required mental energy. The current plan is to have a good night's sleep and then move the run to the morning and then swim tomorrow afternoon. Ahhh, the trials that go with being an Age-Grouper and having to work for a living.

Wait I hear you say, won't you be just as shattered tomorrow afternoon. Possibly, but hopefully not. I am hoping that the solid day or work today has broken the back of what I have been doing, so tomorrow should be a slightly easier day. Still not a free ticket, but easier. Plus, for me, swimming requires a lot less mental energy than running. Plus, plus, I am thinking I might pick up a little something tonight to make swimming alone just a little less painful. More on that tomorrow if I end up getting it tonight.

Now, time for some mental recuperation.
