Speed bump

I started my taper a day early today. That is a slightly more diplomatic way of saying I didn't train today. On the bright side though, it is now a bit less of a mystery as to why I struggled on my ride yesterday. I feel fairly average.

I said yesterday that I didn't think my struggle on the ride was due to the cold I seemed to be suffering from earlier in the week. I suspect that was incorrect. This morning I woke up feeling average. Not just tired average, more something isn't quite right average. I mentioned in a post quite a while ago that when you train for a while you begin to learn the difference between I am tired and something isn't quite right. This was more down the something isn't quite right end of the spectrum. Seeing how I am feeling now I am very happy with my decision since I am definitely feeling less right now. A big part of that is no doubt due to the fact that I have had a busy day today, so I am probably feeling a bit of run of the mill tiredness too. I have tomorrow off on the program and I am hopeful that a good nights rest and having tomorrow off will go along way to helping me feel better.

Not an ideal race lead up, but as I said earlier I really just needed three weeks of maintenance work heading into this race, which I have had. If I can get to the start line feeling healthy then I am still feeling positive for race day.

Watch this space for how I feel in the morning.
