Another Wednesday, another long swim set. Although today was quite different to a normal Wednesday session because this time I was significantly aided by a very speedy wetsuit. The obvious difference was that I was a lot lot faster than normal, but the other difference was that the wetsuit meant that I spent the session by myself.
It became obvious right at the start of the session that the wetsuit would mean that I would be getting too much rest during the set if I stuck to our usual times. To combat this, Paul gave me my own turn around times to do the session on. That was both good and bad news. The good part was that the session was now a better fit for me. The bad news was that the session was now a lot harder. Still I got through well, I think I paced it about right and in the end I got through reasonably comfortably. I had the usual amazement at just how fast the suit makes you. Another good confidence boosting session.
Last night I had a shortish walk/run session. Whilst there wasn't a lot of running, what there was went well. Some good pace which was nice to see. Pulled up feeling fine so far too, which is important in this final week.
Well and truly on the count down to race day now. It is funny with these local races. In this final week there really isn't much to do. I have had this feeling before as well, with races like Busso half etc. Feeling like you should be doing something, but there isn't anything to do yet. When you race interstate, now is about the time you would be heading to the airport, or planning your packing etc. But races like Mandurah, there is none of that and that feels a bit funny. I just keep reminding myself that I haven't forgotten anything. In fact I feel like this is the best prepared I have been for a race in a while. Everything I am using has been tried and tested well before race day and I am pretty confident in it all. Hopefully I am still feeling that way on Sunday morning and I don't suddenly find out that I am not as prepared as I thought.
