Looking upwards

Feeling a little bit average today on account of apparently being unwell. Not exactly where I wanted to be 6 days out from race day. Not really sure how I got here since I thought I was getting sick at the beginning of last week, apparently dodged the bullet and then have been smashed in the face with it since Saturday. Can colds hibernate? Anyway, I am really hoping to recover in time for race day. I am confident of racing well if I can get to the start line feeling good.

Given how I feel, and that the program had today down as a rest day anyway, I am not really up to much training wise today. It is always hard to do a blog about training on days where you aren't training. So in the spirit of being positive I thought I would make a list of silver linings I have at the moment:

  • I have 6 days until race day (including today), that is 6 days to rest, sleep and generally get feeling better.
  • As part of my cold I am feeling a bit tight chested. It is my asthma. Last time I saw a doctor about this she told me that super dosing my asthma medication would help clear it, however, it would take 4 or 5 days to have an effect. Last time I got that news the day before a race (bad), this time I have been super dosing my medication since Saturday (win).
  • The carbon crack in my bike is fixed and I pick it up today. Without the bike I am not sure what race day would have looked like (a very long run???). It wasn't an option I was even willing to consider. Having the bike back makes for much happiness.
  • Two weeks ago I probably had the best race of my life. That counts for a lot.
  • In two days I go on a family holiday to Phuket, how can that ever be a bad thing.
Ahhh, I feel better just having written that.

Now, off to the massage mobile.

(note: I don't actually have a massage mobile, how awesome would that be).
