Last session before race day this morning. Just and easy rolling over of the arms in the pool. It is always nice going to a swim session knowing you will be getting out before the hard bit.
Even though I only had a short swim I decided to still go down and do it with my usual squad at 5:30, getting it out of the way nice and early. Being finished up so early meant I was in at work ridiculously early, first person here which I am pretty sure has never happened before. I was here by about 6:30, which while early for me seems to not be unusual for others. Bit unfortunate if you ask me, but that is probably a conversation for another time.
The big upside to being in here so early (and why I did it) is that I am planning on being out of here early as well and have a nice relaxing Friday afternoon with the family. Should be good.
Speaking of relaxing, I am feeling a bit better than I was yesterday about the race on Sunday. A good night's sleep does do miracles. It was good to write some stuff down to help me figure out some of the stuff that was causing me stress. Most of it is fairly unfounded and going through the process has helped me relax a bit. In the end it is just a race and I know what I need to do in it. Should be a fun day.
On the topic of fun. The forecast for race day is looking pretty okay. The weather has had everyone nervous after last year and so there has been talk about the forecast since late last week. I don't tend to bother looking at weather until a few days before a race since long range forecasts can be fairly fickle so often don't mean much. The current forecast is for a max of 30 degrees and a 15 to 25km southeast/southwesterly winds. Those winds will mean a headwind or cross headwind on the way back to town. To me the forecast means that the conditions are a consideration, but shouldn't be a race breaker. Hot enough that hydration is important, but not critical like last year. Strong enough winds that they probably need to be included in the race plan. Head wind on the way home on the bike always makes a tough day. At least with Mandurah you are only fighting it for 20km or so at a time, rather then 45, so it isn't as tough mentally. It will mean pacing on the bike is important though.
Time for some relaxing.
