Melbourne Cup day today.
That doesn't really mean anything to me since I am not really a fan of horse racing or gambling. However, it does mean I get a free lunch at work. I am definitely a fan of that.
A bit of a spin on the bike this morning. Just a short easy one since it is taper week. I largely managed to stick to those ideals too. I perhaps set a new highest speed on flat ground personal best for a little bit, but other that I was very controlled. The other aim for the session was to give the race wheels a bit of a test, which seemed to go fine, I mean they rolled in circles and didn't fall off, so big ticks there. However, I also got a chance to check some of the less obvious aspects of their performance, ie that they don't rub when they shouldn't, they do stop like they should etc. All of which were fine.
Also, given that I did set a new PB for top speed you could probably say the disc works exactly like it should.
I have another ride on Thursday, which I had planned to do on the road bike, but at the moment I think I will do it on the P5 with the race wheels again. I just feel like I could do with a bit more time on that bike with those wheels to get more comfortable with the handling. At the moment I am just not as comfortable on it as I am on the road bike. Just seems like an easy way to not give up as much speed, ie not having to brake so much for corners.
A bit of a run session tonight. Once again a shorter session with less of everything. Still some intensity work, but not as much. Just enough to get the system ticking over.
I mentioned in the blog yesterday that my wife and I were looking to get a good night's sleep last night to make up for an interrupted one the night before. Well we definitely managed it. Not quite in bed by 8:30 like I was aiming for, but definitely in bed before 9:00.
I just realised that my world has become a strange place when getting in bed before 9:00 was not just a good thing, but a great accomplishment.
Anyway, back to talking about sleep. Soooo good. As I was hoping I woke up this morning feeling good again. Not just physically but mentally. The world is a much happier place when you aren't sleep deprived. The world has regained its rosy tint.
