Just a quick update today due to some time constraints.
I have had another day off work today, the second of my two days in lieu, so it has been a very nice day spent with the kids. The fact that I am looking after the kids is also why this is a short update.
After my experiences last Wednesday when I was home all day but couldn't fit in an afternoon ride, I planned ahead a bit more this time. This morning I was out on the bike for a tough 2 hour bike session. Then around mid morning I dropped the kids off at a Grandmother's for an hour while I headed out and got in a run/walk. All in all it worked very smoothly. It was a very effective morning of training too.
The run/walk session was encouraging. I have been getting a fair bit of soreness in my groin on the left side (opposite side to what I have been having) and so yesterday I was down to the physio to see them about it. Apparently the pain manifesting on both sides is not unusual with this kind of injury, but at the same time the soreness was mostly due to tightness in the muscle, rather than injury. The physio absolutely went to town on the muscles to the point where I was in a lot of pain yesterday afternoon. It seems to have done the trick though, because today the pain was greatly reduced. That was very welcome since the run involved more running and less walking than I have done for a while, so to be able to do it with minimal pain was very welcome. It does mean though that I have to be diligent in stretching and massaging both legs, rather than focusing just on the right which I have been doing a bit. Hopefully doing so will keep the legs loose and the pain away.
Swimming on the program tomorrow. The session will either happen in the morning with the Swim Smooth squad or in the evening on my lonesome. The reason that I am uncertain is that tonight I am heading out to watch my very clever wife play a concert with WASO (Western Australian Symphony Orchestra). This year WASO has run a program they have called the Rusty Orchestra, which is a concert in which high end amateur musicians get to play with WASO. My wife got her self selected and the concert is tonight. Should be very cool. Doesn't start until 8:00pm though, so I am fully expecting not to be in bed early. Not the end of the world, obviously the concert gets priority, and I have found in the past that doing the odd swim session alone can actually be pretty beneficial. See what time I get to bed though before I make any decisions.
Now I had better go, the kids are a little too quiet.
