Another run session this morning. and another step in the right direction. The run this morning was actually another run/walk, but one that was longer, and with more running, than the ones I did last week.
Whilst I am keen to get running properly again, I am always amazed at how effectively you can train when you are reduced to including some walking. Don't get me wrong, there is no substitute for actual running training. But if my various bouts of rehab have shown me anything it is that walking does not necessarily equal poor training.
On the pain front, this morning was another big step forwards. For a lot of the run I had no pain. I mean that, NO pain. When I did start to get sore towards the end, it wasn't in the areas that have been hurt, just miscellaneous other areas of pain (I was running after all). As I said last week, I can live with those areas of soreness. It would be better if they weren't sore, but I am hoping that will continue to improve as my body continues to adjust back to running.
My focus for the run today was to make the running sections feel a bit more natural, a bit more comfortable. I had a good run on Saturday morning, but for much of that I felt like I was rushing my stride a bit. That might work for a short run, but it isn't exactly comfortable or necessarily that sustainable. I have been happy to go with it up until now since I have just been happy to be running. But with a view to returning to running properly, I felt it was time to start getting my stride a bit more nailed down and resembling normal running a bit more. I didn't manage it the whole time, but I think for a few of my running efforts I was getting close. It is something that comes with time and so something that I will keep working on in future runs.
No more training on the books for today. Training has stepped up a notch this week in terms of volume, however, much of the increase in volume is due to a BYL training camp coming up this weekend. Because of that training during the week hasn't increased significantly over what I did last week. I am never one to knock back a rest session though, so I plan to fully enjoy my afternoon.
