So sleepy. Bit of a post lunch lull at the moment. Sometimes I wish I lived in a country that had siestas.
Swimming day today. Unlike last week, I made it down to the Wednesday morning Swim Smooth session. Good swim. A bit of a mix of 150s, 200s and 400s. We have a 400m and 200m time trial coming up on Friday, which we do periodically to help determine our current training pace. The session today was a bit prep for that. Still a proper session (4.8km for those following at home), but with a practice fast 400 and 200 in them. The ones this morning went well and gave me a bit of confidence heading into Friday. If I can get through Friday feeling as good as I did today I will be pretty happy.
I was quite surprised that the session went to well since when I woke up I was just so tired. Usual reason, an early morning wake up call from my son. We have been trying to compensate for his early mornings by getting into bed earlier. But 4:00am is very early in the morning and some nights it is difficult to get into bed early enough. Last night was one of those nights. As a result when I woke up this morning I was propping my eyelids up and wondering how on earth I was going to get through the swim. However, as if often the case with these sessions, once I was there and going, I found that I felt better than I was expecting.
Speaking of feeling better than expected, yesterday I was mentioned that my legs felt fairly crushed by my morning ride. In the end though I managed to recover enough to get through my walk/run session. It went well, other than having a bit more headwind than I like. Unfortunately heading into the session I couldn't find my Garmin 910XT and so was wondering what I was going to use for the run. I was a bit baffled since I was sure I had grabbed it when I had packed my gear on Monday night. Turns out thought it was one of those times when I just thought I was sure I had grabbed it, when in reality I had left it on the study desk. In the end I still had my bike computer handy so I used that instead. It worked well, other than giving me my speed in km/h rather than min/km. It was kind of good having that though since it meant I wasn't focusing on my pace so much and instead concentrated more on intensity. I certainly wouldn't do it regularly, but it was good way to put a difference spin on normal session.
Another couple of toughish sessions coming up with a ride first and then a run tomorrow. I am thinking of trying something new with the run and running home from work. It is something I have considered numerous times but haven't done yet. I work about 20km from home and the run I have tomorrow is about that long, so in theory is should work well. If it does it is probably something I will look to do more often. I will try and remember my watch this time though.
