What's next???

Now for the latest instalment of a little series I have started running called 'What did Derek lose today".

The answer for today is... his Fins.

Seriously, this has not been a good week to be one of my belongings. In my defence, this time I didn't so much lose the fins, as somebody else picked them up from the pool deck after training. So not entirely my fault. At this stage I am quite hopeful of getting them back again. So perhaps brief hiatus, rather than lost.

Speaking of fins, I had swimming this morning. The session was a solid one, but it went well. The main set was made up entirely of 50s and 100s, which is something a little bit different. The second half of the set was on some very tight turn arounds, 50s on 42 seconds and 100s on 1min 24, which on paper sounded kind of awful. But I was surprised that in the pool they didn't feel that bad. I was at the back of the lane and so was probably getting an epic draft which would have helped. Even still, I am claiming it.

The plan this afternoon is to go for a bit of a walky/joggy type outing. I have been monitoring my hip and I think it is ready for some gentle testing. I still get some soreness at times, but the swelling seems to have mostly got down. Still some tightness in the hip, but it has certainly improved over what I was feeling earlier in the week.

Changing topic slightly, it seems like it could be time to eat a bit of humble pie and change my view on something quite controversial (well to me anyway). Shaved Legs.

Specialized bikes has been using their new wind tunnel to test a whole range of interesting things, one of which was just whether shaved legs makes an aero difference. In the past, I, and pretty much everyone else ever, has dismissed the aero benefits of leg shaving as being a bit of wishful thinking. However, according to their testing:

Shaved and Dangerous, Specialized Wind Tunnel testing

It can actually make quite a bit of difference, depending on how hairy you are to start with. Hard to argue with what they present.

Might be time to fire up the razor.
