Good days

Another good session on the trainer last night, building on what I figured out on Tuesday night. I am liking this erg mode on the Kickr more and more. I like that you can just dial in a power level and the trainer will hold you to it. It is great for pushing boundaries. Working on improving power levels on the road is obviously possible, and something that I do focus on, however, out on the road there are so many other factors, weather, traffic, hills, etc which sometimes mean you don't achieve what you are aiming for. On the trainer those variables are all gone. Want to know if you can hold an extra 10 Watts for an hour, dial it in, lets find out. If you manage that, maybe next time you might try for another 5 Watts. I can see it being a great tool for pushing improvement.

Anatomy of a trainer session
This morning it was back down to the pool. On what was officially the coldest morning of the year so far, around 6 degrees. I timed that one well. At least the pool was pretty quiet. Plus, on mornings like this one swimming in a heated pool is probably about the warmest form of exercise available, unless you count sleeping under a doona as a sport, which it probably isn't. Whilst it isn't too bad in the water, the bits either side of being in the water are just a little unpleasant.

The swimming itself was a solid session, and I was pleased to see that the good swimming feelings I had on Wednesday continued. Towards the end of the session I ended up at the head of our lane, and I must say I didn't exactly cover myself in glory there, starting to fatigue and struggling to hold pace.  But other than that I was pleased with how the swim went, and how swimming on the whole is currently tracking.

Out on to the bike for a long ride tomorrow that on paper is similar to the one I had last Saturday. Hopefully on paper is the only place they are similar.
