Things are starting to feel a bit more normal physically, although I am still pretty tired, so this morning I headed out for a run.
It is always tough following up from a good run like the one I had on Friday. It is hard to keep your expectations in check and not head out chasing a PB. With that in mind I was happy with how the run this morning went, it was in the same ball park as the run from last Friday, proving to myself that Friday wasn't a fluke. The run on Friday was in the afternoon as well, which is a time of day where I generally run quicker. With that in mind, this morning's run was pretty alright.
The run was a struggle though. The running felt okay, but it was hard work. Not that the run on Friday was much easier. The Friday run was a good one, so my memory has painted it in a bit more of a golden light, but when I think about it, that one hurt too. The run today was probably a bit more uncomfortable, but I think that might be starting to split hairs.
On the wind trainer tonight. As I mentioned yesterday, the plan has always been to get on the trainer tonight due to home life commitments. However, the way the weather has been today, I think I might have ended up jumping on the trainer tonight anyway. This has certainly been the wettest May we have had in Perth for a while. I am happy for the excuse to not be out in it.
Tonight on the trainer my goal is to explore the abilities of the Kickr a little bit more. I have been looking into third party software that allows you to do some pretty nifty things with the Kickr. However, before I go that way I want to make sure I have fully explored the software that comes with it (it is free after all). I run the Kickr App on my phone, which last time I had resting on a music stand. However, it was just a little to far away and awkward to allow me to use the app much, and as such I relied mostly on my Garmin 510 for data etc. Not using the app also meant that I wasn't using much of the control features of the app that make the Kickr so useful.
In order to remedy that situation I have bodged up an iPhone bike mount so that I can mount the phone on my handlebars. The mount is made from an old Garmin 910XT quick disconnect kit that I have attached using some rubber bands. Classy. I was going to take a photo of the mount with my phone to put on here, but then I realised I would be trying to take a photo of my phone, with my phone. Difficult. You will just have to use your imagination. Anyway, the plan is that by having the phone easily accessible, it will make it easier to use some of the Kickr's more useful features.
Now I just have to decide which wind trainer movie to watch. The short list is currently The Matrix, The Incredibles or possibly Batman Begins. Hmmmm, decisions, decisions....
