I was back out on the bike this morning and whilst the riding only felt okay there was one big positive. I felt physically pretty average this morning and that has made me realise that I haven't mis-remembered how I felt during the race on Sunday. For me it re-inforced a bit more that I made the right choice on Sunday.
Anyway, enough of that. It was good to be out on the bike and spinning the legs. The ride itself didn't exactly set the world on fire, but then again it wasn't really supposed to. Riding this morning made me realise that the year is moving on. It was actually dark enough this morning that I thought I probably should have grabbed my front lights. I was even a little chilly for the first bit. Whilst I am not exactly looking forward to winter and the conditions that come with it, I am certainly keen for a bit of autumn training. Autumn has always been one of my favourite times of year down here in Perth. One of those periods where the winds ease off, the temperatures get a bit lower, but the rain hasn't come yet. Just a little bit perfect.
Yes I know it isn't autumn yet, and being February we are likely to get some more hot weather before we say goodbye to summer, but this morning just reminded me that we are heading that way.
In other news, I think this trip to Geelong may have been the last for my bike bag. The writing has been on the wall for my bike bag for a few trips now, but it has been soldiering on bravely nonetheless. However, this last trip it got yet another tear. Combined with the various other bits and pieces of damage it has sustained over the years, I think it might be time to call it. As such I am going to begin the process of finding another one. At least this time I have a much better idea of the features I would like in a bag, for example being able to be wheeled along without falling over (as a totally random example and not at all a reflection on a really annoying flaw of my current bag). Might try and get it sorted out before Melbourne I think.
Speaking of purchases, I should give a big congratulations to my sister, who on the weekend bought a road bike. Not her first one, but her first one in a very long time. She is in the process of training for a womens only tri down here in Perth. Initially she borrowed one of my older (and pretty tired) bikes, however, it became obvious pretty quickly that it was probably worth her finding a slightly more modern ride. She ended up with a nice Giant, which you can't really go wrong with. So big congratulations and welcome to the family. The cycling family I mean, not the Cross family, she is already a member of that obviously.
In other congratulations, a big Congrats to Stef Puszka who has successfully applied for her professional racing license. Pro number two for Daryl. Stef has been quietly working away for a couple of years now, racking up big result after big result. I would say the license is a big surprise, but to be honest, for anyone who has seen Stef train and race, it isn't really. It has been clear that she has the talent for quite some time now. So congrats Stef. If you can please give it a couple of months before you start beating me that would be nice.
