I think it is probably time for me to accept the sad truth.
I think my Heart Rate monitor has died.
I don't know what happened. One day it seemed to be working fine and then the next session the output was all loopy. My heart rate would climb to 150 and then plummet to 40 and then climb again. The output graph on Garmin Connect looks like a mountain range. I can't say for sure, but I am pretty certain my heart rate wasn't dropping to 40 mid run.
When it first started happening my first reaction was that the battery had died. But I replaced that and it is still doing it. Very annoying because this heart rate monitor is only 6 months old or so. I bought it during one of those frequent periods where you are pretty sure you have lost your heart rate monitor (you know the times) before finding it again several weeks later. So it would be annoying if it has died already. I don't think I have actually had a heart rate monitor die before. Usually I have lost them long before that happens.
On a related note, why are all heart rate monitor straps black, they make the things damn hard to find in a bag. Why not bright orange. They are usually worn under clothing anyway. As a guy if you are training without a shirt on, wearing a bright orange strap across your chest is unlikely to be a concern. As a girl, well I can guarantee nobody is looking at the strap.
Anyway it is just an idea.
The last couple of training sessions have gone okay. I had a run last night which felt surprisingly good. I would daresay the running just felt easy. That was a nice feeling.
The bike this morning felt a lot better than my on Tuesday. I am still coughing a bit, but my chest is feeling a lot clearer. I am hopeful that I am on the upward swing to getting rid of this chest cold.
Moving away from exercise (far, far away) I am currently hiding from cake. Strawberry cheesecake for anyone interested. Somebody left some in the office kitchen and so I am trying to hide from it until somebody else finishes eating it. Unfortunately I have a reputation in the office for eating pretty much anything and in large quantities (lets face it, it is a reputation that I have earned). So everybody else in the office is trying to be good and hiding from it as well, waiting for me to finish it. I would be lying if I said I hadn't already had some, but I am endevouring to try and not have anymore.
The problem with doing lots of exercise is that you can pretty much justify eating anything. However, that doesn't mean you should.
Maybe I should just go and check whether somebody has finished eating it yet.
