I suspect there is a rule written down out there somewhere that says;
The night where you decide that just this once you are going to stay up a little later and finish the book that you have been trying to read for the last three weeks, is the time that one or both of your kids decides that 5:00am is play time.
Guess how my morning went this morning. Needless to say operating on not all that much sleep today.
On the upside I had the vacuuming finished by 7:00am and I got to track a lot of the Canberra 70.3.
Speaking of the Canberra 70.3, it was a bit of a mixed bag for the Daryl Stanley Triathlon squad today. On the one hand there was Stef Puszka putting in another good performance to pull in 2nd in her age group. On the other hand there was one DNS (Tim Green) and one pretty brutal day (Justin Tranter) due to food poisoning. Then if that wasn't bad enough I am hearing stories that Haydn Whitty was taken out by a car while on course and ended up in hospital with a concussion. I am a bit light on the details being the other side of the country and all, but from what I have heard he sounds like he is going to be okay. My thoughts go out to him though, that is pretty close to a nightmare scenario.
On my side of things I did manage to get out for a swim this morning as planned. I thought I would get in one more swim down in the river before returning to proper squad training later this week. Despite my early start I actually headed down a little bit later this morning and as such it was nice and warm and really quite lovely. Now that the weather has been warming up I have really started to enjoy my swims down in the river, quite relaxed and a great way to get in some open water swimming.
Other activities today have included a bit of bike maintenance and cleaning. I finally got around to cleaning off the IMWA race goop from the Cervelo P5. I possibly should have done that earlier, there were things stuck to that bike that cannot be unseen. Better late than never though and so she is all clean, shiny and ready for training next weekend now.
On the bike in the morning. First proper session back. Bring on Albany.
Well perhaps some sleep first.
Then bring on Albany.
