LAI

Life After Ironman. This is day 2 LAI. Working by the old rule of thumb that you are always sorest two days after an activity, I should be rolling on the ground in agony about now. But surprisingly I am not. I actually feel pretty alright. I wouldn't go out and do another Ironman tomorrow, but I could conceivably jump on a bike.

I think part of this is due to the massage I had after the race. I also vaguely recollect my wife icing my legs on Sunday afternoon. I know, how awesome is she. I genuinely say 'vaguely recollect' since I only sort of remember, as I said I wasn't in the best of ways on Sunday afternoon.

Anyway so not so sore today, which I am pretty happy about. Not quite a spring in my step, but getting there. I am now trying to think of something that is smaller than a spring...

I got nothing.

By way of post Ironman exercise I went for a bit of a gentle water run today in the river, got some strange looks doing so, but I think it was worth it. I might jump in the pool tomorrow morning for a gentle rolling over of the arms, I don't think I am up for squad work quite yet. The goal will probably be to get on the bike on Thursday and gently roll into work. I am hoping for miraculously light winds on Thursday morning, since I don't want my 'roll' to become a 'tear inducing slog into a head wind'. When I get passed by weekend warriors smashing their way to work, I will try very hard to not yell after them, 'yeah well I just did an Ironman', I make no promises though.

I really struggled to sleep last night. I am usually like that the night after a big race, with the mind racing and the system pumped by carbs and caffine. This time around I slept pretty well the night after the race, so I think was my system's way of making up for it. Whatever the reason I just couldn't fall asleep, and then my body insisted on waking up early anyway. As a result I am currently operating on something in the vicinity of 4 hours sleep. Despite all that I am feeling surprisingly okay, although it might catch up with me later this afternoon. However, I suspect I will sleep pretty well tonight.

I will start work on my race report shortly and will endeavour to have it up later today. Will see how I go.

In other news, as part of the background to this blog, I can see what internet searches led people here. I just noticed that the most recent search was 'Derek Cross is crazy'. Not sure how I feel about that. They might have a point though.

You do, in all fairness, title your blog "A Special Kind of Crazy". I would say they most certainly do have a point. A very good one.
