As I mentioned last night, it was back on the bike this morning. I wasn't expecting much given the long ride on Sunday, but as is often the case, once I got going, the going got fine. Quite a windy morning so it was one of those sessions where it alternated between grinding along pretty slowly and flying along very quickly. But all up the session was a nice one. Not as bad on the legs as I feared it might have been.
One of my other activities for the day (other than work) was to head back to Marc See, the physio at The Running Centre. I have seen him before about working on my running technique, but today I was seeing him for some more standard physio type stuff. I have had some concerns in the last few weeks about how well my back would cope with the 180km bike leg of an Ironman. I am not sure if I have mentioned this previously, but in 2011 I was out for 12 weeks or so with a bulging disc (actually two discs, but whose counting). Ever since then I have worked very hard to try and make sure the discs don't cause me more trouble and on the whole I have been successful. But when I go for loooong rides, my back gets sore, often to the point where I have to stop and stretch. The purpose of my visit to Marc was to see if there was anything else I could be doing. I ended up getting a number of extra tips, so it was certainly worth the effort. I will have to wait and see if they help or not, but I am hopeful.
Running in the morning. This will be the first proper run session since Mandurah. I had a few runs last week but they were all very light and pretty short, whereas tomorrow is a real running session. I think I will be fine since the intensity is not that high, just a long session. But we will wait shall see. The running has been feeling a little flat since Mandurah, but that might just be because I haven't really been pushing it. If I am feeling flat in the morning, then the ride on Sunday is a perfect reason, but I am hoping that the legs feel okay once I get going. This week has got a fair bit of running volume in it, so it would be good to start on a positive note.
I will find out in the morning.
