Hard Yards

Running today, with a return to the long intervals that have become my standard Tuesday morning session. However, this time the session had a bit of an extra challenge. Instead of the session having two long intervals, there was four. Ouch.

It was a tough session, very tough in fact. Tough enough that for the first time in ages I didn't manage to hit my target times.

I was okay on interval one and two, just missed it on interval 3 and fell in a bit of a hole on interval 4. I am not all that upset about it though. Firstly, I think a major contributing factor is the fatigue that I am carrying from the weekend. I am still a bit stiff and sore from those weekend rides and that certainly played a part this morning. Secondly, it is a pretty tough session. If you had given me this session 6 months ago I would have laughed and walked away. It is meant to push the boundaries. It is nice to get a reminder sometimes that you are working close enough to your limit that sometimes you exceed it. It lets you know that if you keep going, you will improve. It is a good bit of motivation.

I have the same run session again Thursday morning. I am hoping on Thursday I will be carrying less fatigue and so hopefully the session goes a bit better. We shall see though. Pushing limits can be a slow process sometimes.

This week is a rest and recovery week which, as you might gather from this morning's session, means less training, not easy training. As a result I don't have a session this afternoon. Lovely. I might not be training but I am going to be stretching though. I stretch every night anyway, but tonight I think there will be a bit extra. See if I can get rid of some of this stiffness.

Yesterday I mentioned that the clothes that I left in Bintan should arrive back to me sometime this week. Anyway they turned up yesterday. Hooray, a choice of cycling gear again. Very happy.
