I called this post Gone with the Wind, but then realised I had used it before. Oh well, it is very suitable, so I have decided to recycle it.
I survived the ride last night. It wasn't pleasant, but I got through. It was my first 'tough' ride since Metaman and in the end it was pretty okay, just the weather that detracted from it. On the bright side, it wasn't raining for the entire time I was riding. In fact the showers were pretty isolated, so for big chunks of the ride I was on dry roads. The biggest negative were the winds, which were absolutely howling. It certainly made it easier to reach the target speeds for my intervals, but turning around and riding into the wind was an interesting experience.
This morning it was time for my first 'tough' run since Metaman. The weather wasn't all that much better than last night, but I generally find it to be less of an issue when running. Running through the squalls was not particularly pleasant though. The run went very well though. I had some long intervals and was pleasantly surprised at how well I met the desired pace goals. I really haven't run hard for a couple of weeks and so I had some questions in my mind as to whether my body would remember how. It seemed to all come flooding back. It was reassuring after the yesterday's morning's swim.
Speaking of swimming, I am back to the pool in the morning. Friday mornings down at Claremont are always more speed focused, so I will see how it goes. I am sort of hoping the shorter, faster stuff will force my body to find the higher gear that I know it has but couldn't find yesterday. We shall see. If it is another repeat of Wednesday I am not going to beat myself up to much. Still early days and it always seems to take me a little while to find my arms again after even a short break.
