Man I was tired this morning. I woke up already feeling like I was carrying fatigue in my legs from the run yesterday. Plus what is that, is that the sound of rain I hear, of course it is. Needless to say getting out onto the bike this morning was a bit of a struggle.
Still, I got myself out there. I would by lying if I said that the prospect of doing hill repeats was appealing, but I told myself 'just get out there first', 'you can always just ride straight to work' etc. Plus it wasn't all bad. It wasn't raining much, and it was warm. Oh so lovely and warm, about 17 degrees. Unbelievable. I wore my vest and my overshoes, but that was just to protect me from the wet, rather than for warmth. That was the only warm weather gear I was wearing.
And then, as so often happens, once I was going, I felt pretty good. Once I got to King's Park for my hill repeats I was feeling up for it. In the end it was one of the best hills sessions I have had since I moved the ride to Monday morning. It wasn't easy that is for sure, in fact it damn well hurt. But it was the hurt you get when you are feeling strong and so are pushing it, rather than the hurt you get when you have hit the wall and dropped down into a bottomless pit of ouch.
I am pretty tired now though, in fact I am very glad that I have this afternoon off, since my body needs some recovery time. And some sleep. But this session was yet another reminder to myself, you never quite know how you are going to feel once you get going. Never write of a session from your pillow. Don't listen to the pillow talk.
