It was one of those mornings today when getting on the bike was a real effort. I was tired, all I could think of was how cold it was outside, and how hard the session was going to be, how warm my bed was, how good more sleep would feel etc. I really had to put myself on auto pilot to get ready, don't think, just get the bike ready, just put the cycling gear on. When I finally did get out the door, I then found there was a light drizzle falling, which I hadn't realised. I almost turned around. It is going to be one of those sessions I thought.
But it wasn't.
It ended up being a great session. The drizzle went away after about 10 minutes, I got warm and the riding settled in. The session was a hard one, but I got through and achieved the goals for the session as well, and doing it felt pretty good. It didn't feel like I was just slogging slowly, but instead felt reasonably quick, which I hadn't expected when I first jumped on the bike. Sometimes you can never tell. Sometimes you just have to get yourself out the door and moving. We all know the quote from the great Jens "Shutup legs", but I think sometimes you need to just say "Shutup brain" and get yourself going. I am constantly amazed at what my body can do, particularly when my brain is saying it shouldn't be able to.
Getting ready to ride today, it was a case of chuck on the gear that I had dry, so I didn't give it to much thought. It wasn't until I finished my ride that I looked at myself in the mirror. Woah. I had been riding around in public dressed like that for a couple of hours. I am colourblind, but even I could tell that some colour combinations are not meant to be. It wasn't any one piece, it was more due to a multicolour jersery and multicolour knicks meeting in a head on smash. I have to wear it on the ride home as well. I might be trying to find quiet back roads.
