Well this morning was officially the coldest morning since we moved to Perth, 6.3 degrees Celsius. I am not going to lie to you, I was cold. Now, I know I have been living in the tropics for a couple of years, but I lived in Scotland for a while before that, so I understand that 6.3 degrees is not actually that cold. But by golly it felt it.
And yes I did just use by golly in a sentence.
In my defence, I thought it was cold, but it was my wife who turned on the heater. Also it might have been freezing (well technically slightly above) but it was still way nicer than strong winds and belting rain.
Nice long run this morning. About 18 months ago, if you had told me I would use the words nice and long run in the same sentence I probably would have laughed at you. Or had you committed. Or both. Beside the point. Anyway, I have really been enjoying running of late. I think it is partly being here in the cooler weather. Running in Darwin during the wet season (which is normally about 34 degrees and 90% humidity) is one of the definitions of unpleasant. Or insanity. You pick. Whatever the reason, running has been nice lately. I think also my fitness has been rebuilding, so I can now knock off a long run without it killing me. Between the nice running and the swimming with SwimSmooth, I think training in Perth is settling into a rhythm. The last thing to get sorted is the cycling, which is alternating between feeling good and still feeling a little fuzzy. The real test of how things are going will be Cairns. You never know how you are really going until you test it in a race situation.
Had a bit of a bike maintenance day today. Didn't manage to wash the bikes yesterday, so got that done today. Also patched a bunch of tubes that I have been meaning to get to. Yes I still patch tubes. I am not sure if I am the only one. My general rule is that I will patch a tube twice. On the third puncture it goes in the bin. The tube in my front tyre has a very slow leak in it, so also I whipped that out to see if I could track the puncture down. No luck. Very annoying, since I know sooner or later the leak is going to stop being slow and let go in the middle of a ride. Oh well I guess that is why you carry spares.
We got our daughter a new scooter today. She was having fun scooting around on it, as you do on a scooter. Inevitably she came off a little bit. She also ran into several walls, the concept of brakes seemed lost on her. And steering for that matter. Perhaps I should get her into downhill mountain biking. Anyway, so she came off a little bit. Being the concerned father that I am I quickly asked if she was okay. Her first response was to assure me that her scooter was okay. A proper cyclist response. I was so proud.
Into the load week tomorrow.
