Anyway, so far so good on my weekend of training. As I mentioned yesterday training is not going to go to plan this weekend. The plan was for a ride today and a long run tomorrow but due to parenting commitments that plan simply won't fit. Instead I have done a run today and I will be on the bike tomorrow. I have known for most of the week that I wasn't going to be able to train as per the program so my focus instead has been on fitting in the training as best as I can. Today it fitting is pretty well.
The long run this week was the longest single run I have done for a very long time (not really sure how long, but over a year). 32km of continuous running. A while ago that would have been a daunting prospect, but the gradual build in miles that I have been doing for the last few months meant that the 32km didn't really feel like a big deal. To be honest that is exactly how it panned out. I was a little flat for the first 7 or 8km but once the body got into the groove the miles passed quite easily.
The intention of the run was for it be mostly easy with periodic quicker kms and that is exactly how it went. Probably safe to say it is another example of a long run done a bit too quickly, but the running felt good and so I sort of just went with it. I certainly wasn't forcing the pace, except during the on intervals and even then not by much. The average pace ended up quicker than it should for an 'easy' run, but a lot of that was a product of the quicker kms so I am too upset about it.
Now, back to what I was saying about a new toy. The new toy isn't of the two wheel variety, that has arrived too, but it isn't quite ready yet so that will have to wait until next week. Instead the new toy is a GoPro. Yep I have joined the GoPro crowd. It is something I have been thinking about for a while and I found one at a good price so I thought I would give it a go. I had a bit of a play with it today for my run. It may be a bit jerky and is almost certainly a bit dull, but it gives you an idea of the terrain I cover on my usual long runs. One thing about a 32km run, no matter how you slice it is quite a way and requires you to cover quite a bit of territory. Anyway, enjoy. Hopefully.
Oh yeah the video is at 1.5 times normal speed, just to shorten it a bit, I don't run that quickly.
On the bike tomorrow for a bit of a brick session. The ride is supposed to be 180km, but I can tell you now that I won't be able to fit it in, I simply don't have the time (you can only impose on a baby sitter for so long). I will get in as much of the ride done as I am able though. Interestingly since I will have the kids in the morning I will actually be having a pretty massive sleep in. I won't be training until I can drop the kids off at a Grandmother's house, so it should be a fairly cruisy middle of the day training session. Fun. Hopefully the weather comes to the party too. The forecast is for it be wet, but I am hoping that turns out to be inaccurate, it certainly was today. Fingers crossed.
