Another Wednesday, another swim session survived. In fact, like last week it didn't go too badly, so perhaps it was even slightly better than just survived. Plus this week it was a full Swim Smooth, 5km Wednesday morning session compared to last week's slightly shorter than normal session. There is something about knocking off your first 5km swim set in a while that sets you up for the rest of the day.
The session was a bit unusual for a Wednesday in that the longest piece we had was 400m rather than 1400m. Its just that we had a few 400s, plus fifteen 100s or so and even a number of 50s thrown into the mix (2 x 400, 5 x 100, 6 x 50 three times through, on decreasing turn around times to be precise). It was the sort of session which appears very manageable on paper, but which is quite fatiguing in practice.
Still it was great to get through it and have another brick in the wall of my slowly rebuilding swimming form.
Beyond training it has been a fairly quiet day. I am on the cusp of completing a piece of work that has been 18 months or so in the making. So that has been dominating my day a little bit. I was really hoping that it would be done today, but instead it looks like it might have to wait until tomorrow. A bit frustrating, but it will also be a massive relief when it finally is done. So very close.
Tomorrow morning I have another walk/run session. Possibly one of my last ones before I start returning to running proper. I am still happy with how the return to running is going. Injury wise running is beginning to feel something like painfree. I say injury wise, because running is being painful in other ways, but I think that is mostly because I haven't done it properly for such a long time. I pulled up a little sore from my run yesterday morning, but I think that was mostly because I ran several days in a row, which is something I haven't done for a while. I am hopeful that having had no running today, tomorrow's session will be better again.
Tomorrow night I have a session on the bike. Actually the session is supposed to be tonight. But on Thursdays I have to ride home anyway, the alternative is public transport, so I might as well combine the commute with the training session. It sort of just makes sense.
I am currently sitting in the lull before the storm training wise. I am at that cruisy point where the body has got through the first difficult week of returning to training and is settling into the current routine of training. Since training hasn't ramped up yet, the sessions over the next few days are well within my ability. My plan is to enjoy the next few days of low intensity training while I can.
They could be the last ones for a while.
