Rack it up

As well as a bit of training and catching up with family, the other thing I got up to over the weekend was buying and setting up THIS:

The photo isn't the clearest, but THIS is a bike rack.

Just the other day my wife and I were discussing if there where any easy ways to make our bike storage a bit more efficient. I say OUR bike storage since, despite wild allegations, mainly from family members, not all the bike in the house belong to me. The obvious answer to making our storage smarter was a bike rack.

In the bike rack world there are many options, most of which would have suited. Before I went down any particular route though I thought I would have a quick look at some online classifieds. Doing so turned up this little gem which was being advertised for the grand sum of $50. Since most racks (including this one new) are worth several times that value, I thought it sounded like a good deal and so went and picked it up Saturday morning.

The arrangement may evolve a little, but so far the rack is supporting four bikes, plus all my wheels, shoes etc. There are only three bikes on the rack in the picture but that is because my road bike is on the Kickr in the background. So far so good. It has cut the amount of floor space taken up by the bikes in half. Nice.

On a training front I had a bit of a ride/run session this morning. The ride was on the trainer and both the ride and the run where on the short side, really more a test of my groin strain, rather a full blown training session. Things seem to have gone okay. The run was a slower than the one on the weekend, but the legs were still a little heavy from the ride on Sunday, and there was a bit of soreness left over from yesterday's walk/run. But on the whole it was a positive session and I seem to be pulling up okay now. I am still feeling positive about how the running is going.

Standard long Wednesday swim in the morning. Last week I was pleasantly surprised by how that session went. Tomorrow I get to see if that was a fluke.
